asid_showcase_houseThe American Society of Interior Designers have joined up with the folks from MSP Magazine to create this year’s ASID Showcase Home. MSP Mag worked with a team of 40-plus interior designers, architects and contractors on the renovation of a 1951 home in Edina, Minn. A recent blog post from MSP Mag’s Shawn Gilliam gives a nice overview of the projects and even has a couple of videos of local news coverage of the project with some nice interior shots.

This isn’t a model home. It’s an actual family home, so the designers needed to maintain a very livable, kid-friendly feel — while not losing sight of important factors such as sustainability and, of course, style. Staying true to the home’s original design and style while providing a much-needed update and a bit of sophistication, designers incorporated bits of pop-art (note the wall of Campbell’s soup cans and the portrait of the young boy in the videos, references to the work of Andy Warhol), sleek kitchen cabinetry (as seen in the photo at right) and several custom-built Marvin windows (Marvin Windows and Doors is a sponsor of the ASID Showcase Home).

The Minneapolis Star Tribune has more here, and be sure to check out the video at the bottom of this page for some neat shots from the home’s grand re-opening. Folks in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area have until Sunday to check out the house, which is open to the public with the purchase of a $20 ticket — with proceeds going to a variety of charities.
